DIY sock bear

It feels like ‘DIY-summer’ here at Zilverblauw, probably the big big summer vacation has something to do with that. Children in urge for entertainment makes me pretty crafty, I guess. Today an easy teddybear, made out of a pair of socks. Fun to make because the children can really join; filling up the bear is a nice and easy job for kids.

Nodig:
Een paar sokken, liefst zonder gaten. Vulling.

You need:
A pair of socks, fiberfill or polyfill (we used a cushion from IKEA we had left after the photoshoot) Sewingmachine, needle and thread, embroidering thread or textile marker. Eventually two buttons for the eyes.

Doen:

To do:
Turn both socks inside-out. One sock will be used to make the body, legs, and head, and the other will used to make the arms, face, and ears. Lay one sock with the heel flat down. Draw a center line on the sock from the toe to approximately one inch from the heel. This will become the split in the bear’s legs. (see photo 1) Turn the sock right-side out and stuff the entire thing, or better, let your child do the stuffing. (see photo 2) Use the other sock to make the arms (photo 3) and the face and ears. (photo 4)

Attach the arms and ears to either side of the body. Attach the face and close the bottom of the legs. You can now start giving your bear a personality; give him eyes, a smile and eventually accessories. Wolf has a pirate-bear called Snaakhaak, with eyepatch. His eyes are made of felt. The new bear has eyebrows and his eyes are painted buttons. You can also use textile marker. Have fun!
